Why it is important to get an evaluation for Dyslexia?
The most important benefit of having an evaluation for Dyslexia is to gain greater understanding of yourself or your child. Many people learn that certain problems that they thought they would always have to live with are, in fact, treatable. Once you have a diagnosis, or a diagnosis has been excluded for you, you will be able to work with professionals to determine the right, individualized approach for treatment.
At the end of the day, receiving a diagnosis of Dyslexia, or finding out that you do not have Dyslexia, is the start of many positive changes in your or your child’s life. It allows you to create a sense of understanding and allows you to take control of your life.
If you believe your child may have Dyslexia and would like to start creating a plan you can email, call or text me. You can also schedule an initial consult on the “Appointment Page”.
What is Dyslexia?
Dyslexia is a language-based learning disability. Dyslexia refers to a cluster of symptoms, which result in people having difficulties with specific language skills, particularly reading. Students with dyslexia usually experience difficulties with other language skills such as spelling, writing, and pronouncing words. Dyslexia affects individuals throughout their lives; however, its impact can change at different stages in a person’s life. It is referred to as a learning disability because dyslexia can make it very difficult for a student to succeed academically in the typical instructional environment, and in its more severe forms, will qualify a student for special education, special accommodations, or extra support services.
